Deus-Ex-Logo

Deus Ex from Ion Storm was published in 2000 by Eidos Interactive. After using the engine in the third-person action game Rune in 2000, and Dead Man's Hand in 2004 using Unreal Engine 2, developer Human Head Studios would finish 3D Realms' Prey on the id Tech 4 engine in 2006. The former DreamWorks Interactive developed Clive Barker's Undying in 2001. Rage Games (Scotland) used the engine in the game Mobile Forces, while Kamehan Studios developed Tactical Ops: Assault on Terror published by MicroProse, both in 2002.

Meanwhile, after switching over from the Quake II engine in 1998, and after well over a decade of further development, a direct sequel to Duke Nukem 3D was released in 2011 called Duke Nukem Forever using a heavily modified incarnation of the original Unreal engine. Earlier, the game Postal 2 had used a highly derived version known as UE 1.5, with features back-ported from Unreal Engine 2.
