90's First Person Shooters Wiki

Sith is a true 3D polygonal engine written by LucasArts in 1997 for Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II as a successor to its 2.5D based Jedi engine. Star Wars Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith in 1998 added coloured lighting and in-engine cutscenes. It was one of the first major competitors to the Quake engine, predating the Unreal engine, Dark Engine and LithTech that emerged in 1998.

Sith was also used in the educational game Star Wars: Droid Works in 1998, which also reused assets from Dark Forces II, and upgraded for Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine in 1999 as the Jones Engine. It was also adapted for use in the adventure game Grim Fandango in 1998 as part of the GrimE engine. LucasArts later made the Ronin engine for the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed games initiated in 2004.
