The Sapphire Wand is an excellent starting weapon if you like being sneaky and prefer sniping enemies to death. Each individual shot does not do much damage but a constant stream of fire is quite sufficient to take out most of your enemies up to and including the Chaos Serpent and that's not bad for a first weapon.
