Parallax Software was an American video game developer which created the the Descent series using the Descent engine. It was founded by programmers Mike Kulas and Matt Toschlog, formerly of Looking Glass Studios.

The company was later split into two divisions in 1996: Outrage Entertainment, who developed Descent 3 and Alter Echo, and Volition, who went on to develop the Red Faction and Saints Row games.
