90's First Person Shooters Wiki
Outlaws

Outlaws is a western-themed first-person shooter developed and published for Microsoft Windows by LucasArts in 1997. It uses an enhanced version of the Jedi engine, originally used in Star Wars: Dark Forces. It saw an expansion pack Outlaws: Handful of Missions later that year.

Plot[]

In the days of the Old West, a greedy railroad baron hires a bunch of violent outlaws to pressure people into selling their land to him. A retired US Marshal returns home to find his home burning, his wife dying, and his daughter kidnapped. He sets off to exact revenge on the criminals and their boss.

Reception[]

The game was critically well received. Its art style, gameplay, and especially the soundtrack were praised. However, its 2.5D engine was criticized as outdated, as the game came out after true 3D shooters like Quake and Turok Dinosaur Hunter. Sales were modest, but it is now deemed a cult classic.
