Hovertank 3D (also known as Hovertank One) was the original first-person game by id Software, published in 1991 by Softdisk. A vehicular combat game similar to Battlezone, the player controlled a hovertank and was sent into mazes to rescue hostages and get out before a nuclear attack hit. It was followed by Catacomb 3D and Wolfenstein 3D, which solidified the Wolfenstein 3D engine and the first-person shooter genre.
