Heretic was developed and released by Raven Software in 1994 as the first of the Serpent Riders Trilogy. It used a modified version of the Doom engine.

There is one character in the game, an Elf, initially armed only with a Staff and an Elven Wand, but as the game progresses you can acquire more powerfull weapons. The game introduced the ability to fly, look up and down and an inventory system that allowed characters to store items for later use.
Game Structure[]
Heretic is divided into five episodes - the original release included the first three, and the fourth and fifth were added in the Shadow of the Serpent Riders version of the game.
