Bungie is an American video game developer behind the Marathon Trilogy and its game engine. Originally a Macintosh focused developer, it later become famous for its Halo and Destiny series primarily on the Xbox series of consoles.
Several members founded Double Aught in 1996, still heavily contributing to Marathon Infinity, before moving on to the never released Duality. The engine was also licensed to other developers for Damage Incorporated, Prime Target and ZPC: Zero Population Count.
Bungie released the source code to Marathon 2 in 2000 under the GNU GPL, and the whole trilogy as freeware in 2005, culminating in Aleph One reaching 1.0 in 2011 featuring the source code to Infinity and a reconstruction of the original Marathon.
The original Marathon and Pathways into Darkness have also been reverse engineered onto the source port, as have as custom scenarios such as Marathon Rubicon and Excalibur: Morgana's Revenge, as well as Wheels!.
