90's First Person Shooters Wiki

Activision is an American video game publisher and parent company of Raven Software since 1997; it additionally bought out Gray Matter Studios outright in 2002, merging them with Treyarch in 2005. It acquired Expert Software in 1999. It also took over the publishing of id Software games from GT Interactive starting with Quake II in 1997 through to Enemy Territory: Quake Wars in 2007. Activision acquired the Star Trek license from MicroProse, previously held by Interplay, leading to the Star Trek: Elite Force series in the early 2000s. It then achieved massive success with its Call of Duty franchise.

The company merged with Vivendi Games in 2008 to create Activision Blizzard (from Blizzard Entertainment), which was later bought out by Microsoft in 2023 under their Microsoft Gaming label (which also contains Bethesda Softworks and id Software parent ZeniMax Media, bought by Microsoft in 2021; Bethesda ironically having took over the Star Trek license from Activision in the mid-2000s).
